Beach posts Story trail

On the beach and in the dunes of Ameland, there are beach poles. Thick wooden poles, black with a red or white top, with bands and numbers.

Once they served a purpose in beach measurements, but since that has been taken over by modern techniques, many beach poles have been removed. What makes Ameland special is that many have remained standing. They have now become landmarks of significant events. During a walk along the beach, the Beach Pole Stories Path highlights interesting, fun, funny, and dramatic histories.

We start at the beach entrance at Suudwest where the Ameland horse lifeboat is regularly launched, at the lookout plateau. We end at Pancake House Onder de Vuurtoren. The Beach Pole Stories Path is about an hour and a half walk.
