How well do we understand the world around us? In this lecture, Steven Hoekstra of the University of Groningen talks about a fascinating contradiction: we can predict physics experiments in detail, but are far from fully understanding the bigger picture of the universe.
Hoekstra shows how scientists are increasingly opting for small, highly sensitive experiments to test our understanding of nature. His research group focuses on precision measurements on molecules to answer fundamental questions in physics.
Steven Hoekstra received his PhD in atomic physics and worked in Berlin for many years. Since 2010, he has led a research group at the University of Groningen.
