Wilma's tip

"Kijk ik om me heen, blijk ik midden in mijn leven te staan" (As I look around, I realise I am right in the middle of my life)

While walking in the Kooikersduinen (Buren), you’ll come across this stone with its beautiful inscription. Plus, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Wadden Sea. Definitely worth a visit!

Gabriëlle's tip

De Hôn is a remarkable nature reserve in the eastern part of Ameland.

You can spend hours here walking and enjoying the unspoiled nature that makes Ameland so unique. You’ll also find the Baken, a piece of maritime heritage.

Carla's tip

Take a walk around the BP Plas and enjoy the dune grasslands, heathlands, shrubs, and a charming reed marsh with open water.

The BP Plas near Ballum was created in the 1960s during British Petroleum’s exploration for oil and gas. Once a munitions storage site and later used for sand extraction to strengthen the dunes, it has now been transformed by Staatsbosbeheer into a stunning nature reserve.

Take a look at the Green Beach near Ballum!

The beach at Ballum used to be the widest beach on Ameland. In the late 1990s, changing currents formed a sand spit in the North Sea above Ballum. Inside this sand spit, slow-moving water began depositing layers of silt, and soon sea asparagus started to grow

Take a walk along the Spijkerpad!

When you’re on Ameland, a visit to the Oerd is a must, but don’t forget to make a stop at the Spijkerpad. This beautiful boardwalk crosses a tranquil dune lake and offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of nature. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing and unique walk!
