Cleanest beach of the Netherlands! - VVV Ameland

Cleanest beach

The awards for Best Pavilion in the Netherlands and Cleanest Beaches were presented on Thursday, 25 July 2024.

Ameland narrowly comes second!
The award for the cleanest beach went to the municipality of Westland. The beach of Hollum on Ameland came a close second with only one hundredth of a difference. With a score of no less than 9.83, the Hollum beach was the cleanest beach in Friesland!

Many volunteers ensure that Ameland's beach is so clean. Examples include the cleaning activities of the Beachcombers' Association Ameland and the Sier aan Zee accommodation. Mayor Leo Pieter Stoel praises everyone who helps keep the beaches clean: ‘I am proud of everyone who works to keep our beaches clean and safe. Volunteer organisations, residents and guests who pick up litter and throw it in the many litter bins. Together we keep it clean of litter and that has led to a high score in these elections for years.’
