Take part in the national shell counting day and find out what shells wash up on Ameland's beach! 

A shell count will take place on Ameland on Saturday 22 March 2025. This activity is part of the annual Shell Day, during which shells are inventoried along the entire Dutch coast.

During this day, accompanied by experts, you will search for different shell species and learn more about the biodiversity of our beaches. A unique opportunity to actively contribute to scientific research én enjoy the beautiful coastline of Ameland!

Programme:

  • 10:00 am – Start excursion at beach crossing Paal 17 (east Ameland, Bureblinkert)
  • 11:30 am – Gather at the Nature Centre for determination
  • 13:00 – End of activity

Important information:

  • Subscription: Participation is free, but registration is required via www.amelandermusea.nl
  • Gathering point: Paal 17 does not have an exact address. Look at the beach flags on the beach to find the location. Coming by car? Then park at the Kooioerdstuifdijk, at the end of Jan Sietsepad (east of Buren). By foot or bike, follow the same route.
  • Preparation: dress warmly and wear waterproof shoes. It can be chilly at sea.
  • Material: All necessary materials will be provided on site.
