The 10 most beautiful viewpoints on Ameland
Oerdblinkert
1 | Number one is the Oerdduin. Without a doubt the most impressive nature reserve on Ameland! From the island's highest dune (27 metres!), you can see the North Sea on one side and the Wadden Sea on the other! How special is that! More about the Oerd and the Oerdblinkert
Ballumer Blinkert
2 | Here you are at the narrowest part of the island. You look out over the dunes, forest and can even see the Wadden Sea with the ferry. Walk further up and enjoy beautiful views over the beach and the North Sea with large ships in the distance. Did you know that the Blinkert used to be higher? During the construction of bunkers during the war, the dune was made 5 metres lower.
Lighthouse
3 | View Ameland from 55 metres up? Do it! If you take up the challenge and conquer the 236 steps of the lighthouse, a magnificent and unique panorama awaits you at the top of the tower's circumference. Plus, you'll come across interesting exhibits along the way. More on the lighthouse
Wadden Sea dyke
4 | Views of a piece of world heritage? You can do that from Ameland! Find a nice spot on the dyke (plenty of room, because our Wadden Sea dyke is over 16 km long!) and enjoy the silence, tranquillity and the view of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. Bureblinkert
5 | Panoramic views over the Buurderduinen, the Oerd and the Wadden Sea. On a clear day, you can even see the mainland! The Bureblinkert is a historic location. In wartime, a bunker complex stood here. The exciting corridor system of trenches and masonry walls is almost completely overgrown with dune grasses but with some effort can still be recognised.
Nature centre
6 | From the observation tower of the Nature Centre, you have a beautiful view of the whole island and the surrounding sea. The watchtower can be reached by stairs and a lift; it is also accessible for wheelchairs. More on the Nature Centre
Engelsmanduun
7 | A beautiful and interesting place! From this dune, you can see the mainland and, with a bit of clear weather, also Terschelling. An interesting feature of this viewpoint is the bunker that can be seen here. This is one of the bunkers still visible on Ameland, built during the Second World War.
Mochdijk at Hagedoornveld
8 | This nature reserve in Nes offers great views as well as the chance to spot many birds at the bird-watching wall! Think blue harrier and waders. More about birds on Ameland

9 | Then all we see is water, right? True, but you also have beautiful views of the most beautiful Wadden Island in the Netherlands! See Ameland from the other side!
