Playing in the Hollumer forest
The Hollumer forest is more than just a place for walking: it is also a natural play paradise. Scattered through the forest you will find several pieces of playground equipment.
Each unit has its own theme that ties in with the history of Ameland – a fun én educational way to play outdoors.

Islander history
Children can climb on a shipwreck, slide in the Lost Village Sier or let their imagination run wild on a large wooden whale or boat. At each playground there is an information board that tells a piece of the island story. This brings Ameland's past to life in a playful way.

For young children and their parents
The playgrounds are orderly and are a short walk away from each other. Ideal for families with young children who want to discover the forest in a relaxed way. Besides the equipment, there are plenty of natural play stimuli: hills, branches, tree stumps and sandy paths. The route between the play areas is not a fixed route, but can easily be followed via paths through the woods – while playing, you determine the order yourself.
A place to play, learn and discover
What makes this piece of forest special is the combination of nature, games and Amelander stories. Children can expend their energy and learn something about the island. The peace, space and variety also make it a great place for parents to be outdoors together.

🦆 Duck pond

At the edge of the forest is the Duck Pond: a lively place where ducks, chickens, peacocks and other birds live. There are benches and some play equipment, and especially in spring – when there are chicks – it is well worth a visit!
🍄 Gnome village

At one of the forest paths lies the gnome village. In well-kept flowerbeds are colourful houses and dozens of gnomes who live here ‘squo;. A cheerful and imaginative place, where children dive straight into the story – and adults secretly enjoy it just as much.
