Bringing your dog on the Ferry
Your dog is very welcome on the ferries to Ameland! You can easily purchase a ticket for both yourself and your dog, either online or at the ticket machine in the terminal. Please note that your dog must always be kept on a leash on Wagenborg Passenger Services premises and onboard. Make sure your dog does not take up a seat and keeps the walkways clear.
Are you travelling with the regular ferry? Then you will need a ticket for both yourself and your dog.
Taking the fast ferry? You will need a surcharge ticket, but for your dog, a regular ferry ticket will suffice.
Note: An online ticket for your dog can only be purchased in combination with an adult ticket.

Are there any special offers available?
No, ferry fares are fixed for the entire year. However, it is more economical to travel outside the summer period (01 April to 30 September) with the regular ferry service.
Do I need to pay for a service dog?
No, there is no charge for a service or guide dog. They can travel on board free of charge.
What if I want to cancel my ticket?
You can change or cancel your reservation online up to 1 hour before departure. Only reservations made online are not subject to cancellation fees. Cancel reservation
Can you get a group discount?
If you are travelling with a group of 15 people or more, you are eligible for the discounted group rate. However, the group must be registered with Wagenborg Passenger Services at least one day in advance, and the crossing must be made together as a group. Registration can be done by phone at 0900-9238 or online.
Is a public transport companion card valid on the ferry?
Yes, the public transport companion card is also valid for the crossings. More information

Good to know:
Wagenborg Passenger Services charges a surcharge for each crossing with m.s. Fostaborg, in addition to the regular return ticket for the ferry. In 2024, the surcharge is € 8,65, and in 2025, it will be € 9,00.

First, travel to Leeuwarden station, from where you can take bus line 66 to the ferry terminal in Holwert (get off at the stop "Veerdam, Holwert").
What can you do on Ameland after arrival?
Upon arrival with the regular ferry, buses (public transport) are ready to take you further. Taxis are also available at the terminal for travellers. Additionally, you can hire a car on Ameland; for information and rates, please contact one of the local rental companies.
